- How can I improve my Job Posting?
How can I improve my Job Posting? |
Include all the necessary details - there's plenty of room
Monster's Job Description text box gives you enough space to fill a full sheet of letter size paper. So take full advantage by providing all the key benefits of your company and the job. Also, to help Job Seekers find your ad, weave in as many Keywords as you can without getting too repetitive (more below).
Think like a Job Seeker
The first step in creating a job posting is to understand what your ideal Job Seeker wants. Job Seekers see location, company quality & security, corporate culture, work environment, schedule/hours, and salary as the most important pieces of criteria when they are deciding whether or not to apply for a job. As you can see, job seekers view every aspect of the position, well beyond just the basic qualifications. This is the "sizzle" of the posting. Sell the sizzle when you put your positions online!
You should also think about posting information about the advantages that your company offers, perks, bonuses after completing licenses, etc. that will make them stand out. This is another opportunity for you to differentiate your job in the market.
Use keywords to help Job Seekers find your ad
Keywords are words, phrases, terms, industry-specific buzzwords, etc. that describe technical and professional experience. When a Job Seeker searches for jobs on Monster, they enter keywords into our search engine. Any jobs that contain those keywords will beshown on the results pages. Example keywords: UNIX, programmer, SAP, sales, COBOL, human resources, Oracle, FORTRAN, marketing, advertising, etc.
Organize your ad for easy reading
Use individual paragraphs, bullets or a combination of both to describe each aspect of the job.
Put your best foot forward
Start with a quick but informative explanation of your company - Who you are; What you do. Are you an industry leader? If so, put that in!
Accurately set job seeker expectations and fully list all related job duties
Let prospects know exactly what is expected of them on a daily, monthly, annual basis. Describe responsibilities in detail. Who will they report to? Who will report to them? Are reviews performed? Also include potential benefits (ex: the successful candidate will have the opportunity to transition into management within 1-3 years).
Pre-qualify job seekers by detailing all job requirements
Describe the skills and characteristics of your perfect candidate. Is a technical degree required? How many years experience are needed? The more details you include, the more targeted your results should be.
Search jobs on Monster
See what Job Seekers see, and look at how other employers write their ads. This will give you an idea of how things work on Monster and help you develop a unique and effective voice for your company.
Important questions to consider when reviewing a job posting:
- Do the duties/responsibilities match the job title?
- Is travel a requirement?
- Are there different shifts available?
- Is weekend work required?
- Is overtime required?
- What are the benefits?
- Is the website of the company displayed in the posting?
- Is there a screen questionnaire attached to the posting?
Note: Please remember to always:
- Check for spelling
- Check for poor formatting
- Check for abbreviations
- Check for use of plurals
How can I increase the response to my job posting?
To increase the effectiveness of your job posting, we recommend that you consider the search criteria that Job Seekers are likely to use when conducting a search. For best results, include multiple relevant keywords in your job description, review the job search category you selected, and include the job's physical address. We also recommend that you include the salary range for the position you are posting. Salary and job location are considered the two most important factors job seekers consider when applying for a job.

- Can I use Boolean operator while searching the database?
Can I use Boolean functionality while searching the database? |
Yes, Boolean functionality can be used on the Power search page using the 'Boolean' tab. It is also used in 'Any keyword' box on the form or in the 'Keywords' box while refining results on the search results page.
Boolean operators ('AND', 'OR' , 'NOT' & Parenthesis) individually or in combination can help create simple or complex keyword search queries in a single box.
Using 'OR':
For a sales requirement, any of 'Sales'/'Business Development'/'Key Accounts Management' could be the right keyword. So providing Sales OR "Business Development" OR "Key Accounts Management" in the 'Any keywords' box will get you the right profiles.
Using 'AND':
For a marketing requirement, both 'Marketing' & 'Brand Management' can be the right keywords. So you need to provide Marketing AND "Brand Management" in the 'Any keywords' box to get the right profiles.
Using PARENTHESIS:
Parentheses are used when there is a need to use a combination of AND, OR & NOT in the boolean query.
Using 'NOT':
You require a 'Front Office Manager' in Healthcare, but similar profiles from Hotels are to be excluded. So you need to provide ("Front Office Manager" AND "Healthcare") AND NOT (Hotel) in the 'Any keywords' box to get the right profiles.
Using a combination:
You need profiles having both Linux & MySql, with either of Perl OR PHP, but excluding Java. You can perform the search by keying in the expression ((Perl, PHP ) AND (Linux AND MySql ) ) AND NOT (Java ) in the keyword box

- Do you have examples of keyword search strings?
Do you have examples of keyword search strings? |
Keywords are words, phrases, and terms to describe technical and professional experience, locations and company names.
Using keywords is an effective way to search for words, phrases and acronyms contained in a job seeker's resume (e.g., UNIX, programmer, SAP, sales, COBOL, human resources). How you create your search string will influence your search results. Below are a few ways you can define your keyword search terms using Boolean operators for a more effective resume search. There is a 500 character limit in the keyword box.
Use AND between terms to search for resumes that include all surrounding terms. For example, UNIX AND programmer will return only resumes that include both terms. If you don't separate your terms, (e.g., UNIX programmer), AND is used as the default.
Use OR between terms to search for resumes that contain either word surrounding it. For example, UNIX OR programmer will return resumes that have either term. Using OR can be useful when there is more than one word that describes a desired search term.
Use " " (quotation marks) around multiple terms to search for resumes that include the term included in quotes. For example, "UNIX programmer" will return resumes that include that specific term, rather than separate occurrences of the two words.
